Renewing and reconnecting a connection
When to use Renew consent, Reconnect, Enable or the Akahu Dashboard, what happens to your accounts and history, and how to fetch older transactions after a renewal.

Now and then a connection needs you to log in at your institution again: its consent runs out, the login stops working, or you turned the connection off. Synci shows a button for each case on the connection. Whichever one you use, the connection keeps its accounts, transactions, linked accounts and rules.
Which button do I need?
Renew consent: for EU and UK banks whose consent is about to expire or has expired.
Reconnect: for a connection whose login no longer works, or whose access was revoked. It also appears on the Banks page once a consent has expired.
Enable: for a connection that has been disabled, by you or by Synci.
Akahu Dashboard: for New Zealand banks, which have no consent to renew.
You'll find these buttons on the connection's own page, and next to the connection on the Banks, Brokerages or Crypto page when it needs attention.
Renewing consent (EU and UK banks)
Banks in Europe and the UK give Synci access for a limited time, set by Access valid for when you connected. Synci reminds you a week before the consent expires, again the day before, and once more when it has expired. Reminders arrive by email and in the app unless you've changed your notification settings. From a week before expiry, the connection on the Banks page also shows a Renew consent button.
Open the connection and choose Renew consent. You can also use the button on the Banks page or the one in the reminder. They all start the same renewal.
Optionally, expand Connection settings to change Sync balances, Max history or Access valid for. They start at the values your connection has now. Then choose Continue.
Log in at your bank and approve access.
Back in Synci, choose which accounts to keep syncing. Accounts you had switched off stay unticked, and any account the bank lists for the first time is ticked. Choose Finish setup.
If you close the page before finishing, Synci finishes for you after 30 minutes: your account choice stays as it is and syncing resumes for the enabled accounts.
Connection settings are part of what you agree to at your bank, so renewing is the only way to change them. If you want a longer Max history or a different Access valid for, renew the consent and adjust them on the way.
Fetching older history after a renewal
Raising Max history doesn't pull in older transactions on its own. To fetch them:
Open the account. If you set a Sync start date in its settings, move it back to the earliest date you want, because only transactions since that date are synced.
Choose Sync. Set Type to Transactions (or All data) and pick an earlier From date. You can't go back further than your Max history.
Choose Sync to start.
Synci fetches the newest part first. If you go back more than about three months, the rest fills in from the next scheduled sync.
Reconnecting after an error
When the institution tells Synci that a login can no longer be used, or that access was withdrawn, the connection is marked Needs attention. The connection page shows the message Synci received, which often explains what happened.
Choose Reconnect.
Log in at your institution again.
Back in Synci, confirm which accounts to keep syncing.
Brokerages and crypto exchanges don't have a consent that expires, so the only time they need you is when the login breaks. Use Reconnect on the connection when it shows Needs attention.
New Zealand banks
New Zealand banks connect through Akahu, and their consent doesn't expire, so there is nothing to renew. Use Akahu Dashboard on the connection to add or remove banks, or to revoke Synci's access.
If Synci's Akahu access is revoked, syncing stops for the banks you linked through Akahu, and Synci lets you know. You have 48 hours to reconnect. After that, Synci deletes the transaction, balance and account data it collected through Akahu. Your transfer history with destinations is kept. To reconnect, use Reconnect on the Banks page or the button in the notification.
Enabling a disabled connection
A connection can be disabled by you, by Synci when your plan has fewer connections than you're using, or by Synci after repeated failures. Disabling revokes Synci's consent, so enabling it again means logging in at your institution.
Open the connection and choose Enable.
Log in at your institution.
Choose which accounts to keep syncing.
An enabled connection counts toward your plan again, so you need a free connection on your plan to enable one. If you're at your limit, Synci offers to upgrade. Renewing or reconnecting a connection that is still enabled doesn't use an extra connection.
