Data retention

How long we store your bank account data, and how to customize it.

The main purpose of Synci is to transfer your bank account data to other platforms (destinations). We are not really interested in keeping this sensitive data in our servers once we’ve fulfilled that purpose. For your privacy and security, we have a data retention policy limiting the number of days we store your bank account data in Synci. This option is configurable for all users, with some limits depending on your plan.

Plan limits

Regardless of your plan, we must retain your bank account data for a minimum of 7 days. This is to prevent syncing issues and duplicate transactions. The maximum number of days of data retention is limited by your plan:

  • Basic: Up to 30 days

  • Advanced: Up to 180 days

  • Pro: Up to 365 days

  • Enterprise: No limit

The limits above apply as of writing of this article, but it might not always be up-to-date. Please refer to our pricing or billing page before subscribing.

Customizing data retention

By default, the number of days we retain your bank account data is set to the maximum number of days allowed by your plan. If you wish to change this, you can easily do so by going to Settings > Data. You are also able to quickly change your data retention preferences by clicking on the edit button in the “Bank Data Retention” card displayed at the top of your dashboard.

What happens when bank account data expires?

We delete it from our servers, permanently. No soft deletes, no copies, no tricks. If we’ve deleted data that you didn’t want deleted, you’ll have to re-sync it from your bank.

What data gets deleted?

All sensitive bank account data and related logs are deleted once they’ve been stored in Synci beyond what your data retention preference allows. Specifically, this is what gets deleted:

  • Bank transactions

  • Bank balances

  • Transfer logs

  • Rule logs

  • Bank logs

The bank connections and accounts themselves remain untouched.

Example: If your bank data retention is set to 7 days, and Synci fetches a bank transaction on January 1, the transaction and its related logs are automatically deleted on January 8.
