Accounts
A guide to the financial accounts Synci retrieves through your connections: account types, sync settings, health, enrichment, and field mapping.

Synci automatically retrieves your accounts through your financial connections. There is no limit to how many accounts a connection can hold, and you're billed per connection, not per account.
Formerly "bank accounts": Synci now supports investment and crypto accounts in addition to bank accounts, so these are collectively called financial accounts, or simply accounts.
Account types
Each account has a category that determines what data is available for it:
Bank: Everyday checking and savings accounts. Provides transactions, balances, and account details such as IBAN and owner name.
Investment: Brokerage and crypto-exchange accounts. Provides holdings (your positions), balances, and account activity such as trades, dividends, and transfers.
Deposit: A cash sub-account held at a brokerage.
Line of credit: A credit line held at a brokerage.
Credit cards at EU and UK banks show up as ordinary Bank accounts, because the bank data we receive doesn't say what type of account it is.
You can give any account a custom name (in its Settings, under General), which Synci will use everywhere instead of the name assigned by your institution.
Each account page has the tabs Linked Accounts, Rules, Rule Logs, Settings and About. Investment accounts also get a Holdings tab. Brokerage and crypto accounts have no Rules or Rule Logs tabs, since rules aren't available for them.
Data available for syncing
Synci fetches up to four types of data per account:
Account details: Refreshed automatically. For EU and UK bank accounts, this happens every 7 days.
Transactions: Synced on the account's Sync frequency (every 6 hours by default) while the account and its connection are healthy. Investment accounts sync once per day, since brokerages typically make activity available with a one-day delay.
Balances: On by default. Synced on the same schedule as transactions, when balance syncing is enabled for both the connection and the account. For EU and UK banks, balances sync at most once an hour, and less often for banks that cap how many requests they accept per day.
Holdings: For investment accounts, your positions (symbol, quantity, market value), updated daily.
Syncing
Automatic sync
New accounts sync automatically. The first sync starts as soon as you finish setting up the connection, and after that Synci retrieves data on the schedule set by the account's Sync frequency. You can then consume it via the API or webhooks without needing to create linked accounts.
The Sync frequency setting offers these options:
Never: Turns automatic syncing off for this account. You can still sync it manually.
Every 6 hours: The default.
Every 2 hours: The fastest option, available on Pro. On Basic, this option shows as Faster syncing and is locked.
Custom: Pick any interval between your plan's fastest option and once every 24 hours.
Banks that cap how many requests a day they accept may sync less often than this. When a bank refuses on its daily cap, Synci slows that account down to every 6 hours, and further (up to once a day) if the bank keeps refusing.
Manual sync
You can start a sync at any time with the Sync button on the account page. Choose a Type (All data, Transactions, Balances or Account details) and, if you want transactions from further back, a From date (no earlier than the connection's Max history allows). To protect against overuse, manual syncs of the same data type are rate-limited per account: every 30 minutes on plans with faster syncing (Pro), and every 6 hours otherwise.
Sync settings
Each account has its own settings under Settings > Sync:
Sync start date: Only transactions that have occurred since this date are synced. It is bounded by the connection's Max history. The setup you go through after connecting calls this Import from.
Sync frequency: How often automatic sync runs (see above). The fastest interval depends on your subscription plan.
Sync pending transactions: Choose whether pending (not yet booked) transactions are synced. Bank accounts only. See the Transactions article for how Synci handles a pending transaction becoming booked.
Sync balances: Turn balance syncing on or off for this account. For bank accounts, this only works when the connection syncs balances too.
If you haven't customized an account's settings, it uses sensible defaults for its institution.
Health
Synci tracks the health of each account, independently of its connection:
Healthy: The last sync succeeded. Syncing happens at your configured frequency.
Failing: A sync failed. The account leaves the regular schedule, and Synci retries it once a day until it recovers. A single successful sync restores the account to healthy automatically.
Dead: 10 consecutive syncs have failed, and syncing stops. Renewing or reconnecting the connection is usually required.
A bank refusing requests because of its daily cap doesn't make an account fail: Synci pauses and tries again later. Temporary outages at the bank or at our data partner are retried too, and only count as one failure for every 12 attempts the outage blocks.
When an account fails, the error message from the data provider is shown on the account's About tab. Synci emails you about problems with the connection as a whole (see Financial connections). If your bank reports that an account no longer exists, or that Synci has lost access to it, Synci disables the account and emails you. To sync it again, renew your consent, or delete the account from Synci.
You can't disable an account yourself from the dashboard. To stop it from syncing, set its Sync frequency to Never, leave it out in the Accounts step the next time you renew the connection, or delete it.
Enrichment (AI features)
Optionally, Synci can enrich your transactions with cleaned-up payee names, merchant logos, categories, and subscription detection. Turn it on with Enable Transaction Enrichment under Settings > Enrichment, or in the Preferences step after connecting. Enrichment is powered by specialized third-party enrichment providers, with data-privacy protections in place. It applies to bank accounts only, since investment activity arrives already structured and doesn't need it.
Plan: Enrichment needs a plan with AI features (Pro).
Time window: Only transactions from the last 3 months are enriched.
Pending transactions: These aren't enriched. Enrichment happens when your bank books a transaction, usually within 1 to 3 days.
Provider: Ntropy is the default. You can switch to OpenAI (Azure), the legacy option, if you only need clean payee names or Ntropy isn't working for you.
Country: Setting the country where your transactions are made significantly improves accuracy.
New Zealand banks: Transactions arrive already enriched by Akahu, and this can't be changed.
Map fields
Settings > Map fields decides which raw transaction fields Synci uses for the payee, description, and date shown on your transactions (and sent to destinations). Each of the three has an Automatic mapping toggle, on by default, which lets Synci pick the best field for your bank with its own fallbacks. Turn it off to choose an ordered list of fields instead: Synci tries them from top to bottom and uses the first one that has a value. You can also try different mappings on real transactions in the Transaction preview step after connecting. See "Mapped fields" in the Transactions article.
Advanced options
Bank accounts have a few more settings under Settings > Advanced. The first two only apply to accounts that sync pending transactions, and both are on by default.
Match settlements with changed amounts: When a card pre-authorization (like a fuel station hold) books at a different amount, Synci updates the pending transaction instead of creating a duplicate. Settlement match window sets the maximum number of days between a pending transaction and its booked settlement.
Match re-worded counterparty names: Banks often re-word a counterparty when a pending transaction settles (for example, RYANAIR.COM settles as RYANAIR.C 2833094798). With this on, Synci recognizes them as the same counterparty and updates the pending copy instead of storing it twice. Re-worded name minimum match (characters) controls how strict this is.
Fields for duplicate filtering: For specific use cases, you can customize which transaction fields Synci uses to detect duplicates during syncing. Only change this if you are struggling with duplicate or missing transactions.
Your accounts are automatically fetched to Synci through your Financial connections. The following guide details how to create new connections: Adding accounts.
There is no limit to the number of accounts you can add to Synci. Your plan is billed per connection.
