Apps powered by SimpleFIN
Synci works as a SimpleFIN data source, so any SimpleFIN-compatible budgeting or finance app can pull your bank transactions and balances from Synci. It covers European banks (via GoCardless) and New Zealand banks (via Akahu), so you can use SimpleFIN with banks that other SimpleFIN providers don't reach.

How it works
Synci gives your app a secure, read-only connection to the accounts you choose. Whenever your app runs its bank sync, it asks Synci for your latest transactions and balances and imports anything new. Synci never pushes to your app and can't see or change your budget: your app does the fetching, on your command, and you can revoke access from Synci at any time.
Before you start
A SimpleFIN-compatible app. Actual Budget, Buckets, and others support the SimpleFIN protocol. Check your app's docs for a "SimpleFIN" or "connect a bank" option.
A Synci account with at least one connected account (bank, investment/brokerage, or crypto). They all sync into your app as accounts.
Set it up
1. Create the SimpleFIN destination in Synci
In Synci, open Destinations and add SimpleFIN.
Choose which accounts to expose: share all accounts (everything you have now, plus anything you connect later) or select specific accounts.
Synci shows a one-time setup token. Copy it, you'll paste it into your app next.
The token is valid for 7 days and can be used once. If it expires before you get to it, regenerate it from the destination's page (regenerating replaces the old token).
2. Add the token in your app
In your app, find the option to connect a bank via SimpleFIN. Apps label this differently, often "Add account", "Link bank account", or "SimpleFIN".
Paste the setup token from Synci and continue.
Your app lists the accounts you exposed. Link each one to a new or existing account in your app.
3. Sync
Run your app's bank sync whenever you want fresh data. Your app imports new transactions and updated balances and matches them against what's already there, so re-syncing won't create duplicates.
Most SimpleFIN apps sync on demand rather than on a schedule, so run the sync when you want it.
Good to know
Works with any SimpleFIN-compatible app. The same setup token works across apps, and you can connect more than one.
Reaches banks other providers don't. Synci covers European (GoCardless) and New Zealand (Akahu) banks, filling the gap left by US and Canada focused SimpleFIN providers.
History goes back about 90 days. For older history, export a CSV from Synci and import it into your app once; sync takes over from there.
Customizing how transactions look. To change payees or clean up descriptions, use Synci's bank account rules. Their changes are saved to your transactions and flow into your app automatically.
Changing which accounts are shared. Edit the destination in Synci any time; changes apply on your app's next sync. If you stop sharing an account that's still linked, your app will show a connection error for it. Unlink it there, or re-add it in Synci.
Multiple destinations. One SimpleFIN destination per app is the simplest setup, but you can create as many as you like, each with its own token and account selection.
Security and revoking access
The connection is read-only and limited to the accounts the destination exposes: it can only fetch account data and nothing else in your Synci account. If you chose "share all accounts," that scope includes accounts you connect in the future.
You can revoke access at any time from the destination's page in Synci. Your app's next sync will then report that the connection is no longer valid. To reconnect later, create a new SimpleFIN destination and link your accounts again.
