Synci lets you know when something needs your attention, like a bank consent that is about to expire or a connection that has stopped syncing. Notifications reach you through two channels: Email, and In-app in the notification inbox inside Synci. You decide which topics use which channel.

The notification inbox

Click the bell icon at the top of any page to open Notifications. A number on the bell shows how many unread notifications you have.

  • Switch between All, Unread, Needs attention and Archived to filter the list. Needs attention shows the issues that are still waiting for you, such as a connection that needs renewing.

  • Use Search notifications to find a notification by its title or text.

  • Most notifications have a button that takes you straight to the page where you can act on it, for example View bank connections.

  • Mark a single notification as read or unread, or archive it to tidy your inbox. To bring an archived notification back, open Archived and choose Restore to inbox.

  • Mark all as read clears every unread notification at once.

Issues clear themselves

Notifications about an expiring consent or a failing connection stay under Needs attention until the problem is fixed. As soon as you renew or reconnect the connection, delete it, or it starts syncing successfully again, Synci marks the notification as resolved and its icon turns into a check mark. You don't need to archive it yourself.

Choosing how you're notified

  1. Open Settings from the user menu at the bottom of the sidebar. You can also click Preferences at the bottom of the notification inbox to jump straight there.

  2. Go to Notification settings and find Notification delivery.

  3. For each topic, switch Email and In-app on or off.

Every topic starts with both channels on. You can keep both, choose one, or turn both off. Your choices save automatically and apply to future notifications; anything already in your inbox stays there.

A few emails are always sent, whatever you choose here: sign-in codes, password resets, email verification, subscription confirmations, and required agreement notices. Product update emails are a separate setting: turn Product updates on or off under Profile in Settings.

What each topic covers

  • Connection expiry: For EU and UK banks, reminders a week before and a day before a consent expires, and a notice once it has expired and the connection is disabled. You're also told when a bank stops giving Synci access to one of your accounts. To renew a consent, see Renewing and reconnecting a connection.

  • Connection problems: A bank, brokerage, crypto exchange or destination (such as YNAB or Lunch Money) that keeps failing to sync, or that has been disabled after too many failures. This topic also covers a New Zealand bank connection whose Akahu access was revoked (reconnect within 48 hours to keep the data collected through it), a YNAB budget Synci can no longer reach, and a YNAB connection that was disabled because your YNAB subscription lapsed.

  • Linked account interruptions: A linked account that has stopped transferring because its destination is unavailable. Once the underlying problem is fixed, you can enable it again.

  • Rules & transaction alerts: A rule that was turned off because it failed repeatedly, and rules that were turned off because they no longer fit your plan.

  • Subscription & plan changes: The confirmation of a new subscription, and connections, accounts or features that were disabled after a plan change.

  • Connected app activity: An app or AI assistant being connected to your account, being disconnected, losing access, or asking for more permissions. To review these apps, see Managing third-party apps and AI assistants.

  • Developer alerts: For people building on Synci: a webhook endpoint that was disabled, review decisions on apps you've submitted, apps that were suspended or deleted, changes to your API token permissions, and changes to the developer agreement.

FAQ

I turned off email for a topic, so why did I still get an email? Subscription confirmations and required agreement notices are always emailed, even when email is off for their topic. The same goes for sign-in codes, password resets and email verification.

What happens if I turn off both channels for a topic? Synci stops sending you notifications for that topic. The problem itself still shows on the relevant page, for example a warning on the connection page when a consent has expired.

Can I get back a notification I archived? Yes. Open Archived in the inbox and choose Restore to inbox.
